In case you were working on Tuesday and missed this little gem, seems that someone in the bowels of BASS thought it would be a great idea for all the world, literally ALL the world, to see where the Classic competitors were located while competing. Some words on that here: http://bassmaster.com.

Not only would fans be able to see the location, but the competitors would be able to see where the other competitors were competing. Can you say "turd in a punch bowl"?

The whole sponsorship/ endorsement/ promo/ pro-staff/ patch pirate thing is one of the most misunderstood business ventures I've ever been a part of. There are just so many misconceptions it's sheer madness. Madness, I tell you! Sheer, unadulterated Looney Tunes! Here are a few examples:

Just another case of Big Brother telling us what we will or won't do or a government agency looking after it's assets in a responsible manner; you make the call. Here's what's up.

On the surface, it would appear that the USACE is trying to limit the number of times the gates swing at these two locks on the Arkansas River. As a resident of central Arkansas, I've boated through both of these locks numerous times. Watched as they built the things back in the 70's. I see how much traffic goes through the locks - at times. I have no doubt these locks can be a maintenance nightmare. Think about what a lock is - it's a box in the water with an iron door on each end. You think there's not some maintenance issues there? No doubt.

So I loaded up the BassCat and went fishing the other day with a couple of buds. I didn’t think about what a great day it truly was until I received my bodacius, bassalicious BassBlaster update one morning a few weeks later. This morning in particular, to be exact: www.bassparade.com.

I don’t know whether Z or Ken was the winner on that deal. I do know that Z has these little tricks he uses to get the angler ju-u-u-ust right when pic’ing smallies so that they look HUGE when in fact they’re just big. He also hasn’t shared all those little tricks with me, so that’s why I’m busting him out on it here. Just sayin’…

Just some random thoughts from a random guy.

After last week's pseudo big bass bash held by FLW and their EverStart Central on the Mississippi River out of Lacrosse, WI, you really have to wonder a few things. First, three fish limit; kudos to the WI DNR for being VERY conservation minded in taking care of the resource.

With that being said, note to both B.A.S.S.and FLW, it would seem that WI DNR values their natural resources more than they value your derbies coming to town. The mayor may want you, but not everyone is your buddy. Go somewhere else.

What was that thing with the FLW College fishing off/ on/ off/ on at the recent EverStart derby out of Lacrosse, WI? Something about the Corps of Engineers not allowing volunteers to be reimbursed for assistance? I can only assume because it is federal and navigable waterways there are some freaky rules involved. Surprised the DOT doesn't require all pros to keep a log book in their boats. Dammit, probably just gave them another idea for more control. Guberment over zealousness at its finest.

Isn't it amazing how hooking up the boat, jumping in the truck, and blasting off to the pond to jackpot a local derby sounds like such a great idea at 4:30 in the morning, but kind of sucks at 10:00 when you've only had two bites? Yeah, it really bites at 2:00 when you still only have two keeps in the box? Just gotta love some derby fishing.

If there are no fish anywhere near your rattling crank bait, does it still rattle?
