As I’m watching this video (http://youtu.be/TyftJByLORE) the other day, I’m wondering a few things. One, what exactly are these cats saying? I have no idea what they’re rattling off, but it sure looks like they’re having fun with it. Two, can I get the head stick stacker at St. Croix Rods to build me up a few of these Super Dooper Ninja Whomping Sticks? Thirdly and finally, what kind of H-E-double-Hockey-Sticks is going to happen when I tie an Alabama rig to the end of each string threaded through my Quad Shafted Ninja Whomping Stick? Would that be legal?
These Japanese fishing cats are having some kind of fun with their multi-shafted feeshin’ poles. I was pretty impressed with the Dual Shaft model. Yeah, I could see me throwing a couple of froggies or wobblers with one of those beauties. Spool up two pieces of Vicious Ultimate mono or Vicious Braid on a deep spool Lew’s reel, rear back and let it fly. What could be better than two of something coming through the water? Duh, the answer would be – FOUR. Oh yeah, here we go. When fanny pack dude whipped out the Super Dooper Ninja Quad Shaft Stick with the Major Whomping Action, I knew THAT was the deal right there. Four Kermies beats the poodoo out of 2 frogs any day of the week. Legal? I don’t see why not.
I’m looking through the B.A.S.S. Opens rules for 2012 and it says this about rods under Rule Number 7 “Tackle and Equipment”- “Only ONE casting, spin casting or spinning rod (8 foot maximum length from butt of handle to rod tip) and reel may be used at any one time.” (I would look in the 2012 Elite rules, but it seems that they’re not available as of yet. Even though we’ve all signed up for the ride. We have no idea what the rules are. Exactly. Just kind of. See any problem with that, or is it just me?)As I see it, the rods these Japanese Cats are using appear to be ONE casting rod and reel. Sure, the rod has two or four tips, but what defines ONE rod? Is it ONE shaft from butt to tip? Doesn’t specify that in the B.A.S.S. rules, now does it? I’m working on having me one of those on the deck of the BassCat for next season. Tie on a couple of ‘Bama rigs and BOOM! I can haul in a couple of limits in one quick lob cast. I’m dubbing this the Auburn Rig. This is the kind of thing my engineering bud, Steve Kennedy, is already working on in his basement, I’m sure. If not, he needs to get his head out of his butt and get busy, I’m thinking.
What? You don’t think that’s fair? Show me where the Auburn Rig is out of bounds. Sure, Tennessee and a few other states currently limit the number of hooks you can chunk on a single cast, but hey, other than Douglas Lake, I don’t see an issue for the 2012 Elite schedule. No problems at Doug, as you just drop a couple of hooks off your single A-Rig and you’re good to go, bro. Lob away and rake ‘em in. It’s so easy a cave man could do it. The days of one lure, one cast are long gone. Of course, they’ve actually been gone for a while, as we’ve had the Front Runner, Double Fluke Rig, and Donkey Rig around for a while. But this, this Bammer Rig thing, this is a whole different game.
Even if B.A.S.S. refines the rod rule to a single shaft, you can still have a Mega Mojo Bammer Rig wired up to hold 10 or 20 or 50 or 100 or, HOLY CRAP, 1,000 swimmers dangling from the wires. Why not? If you can chunk it, it’s legal (in most states), right? Where do we draw the line? Screw the line, man. This thing is good for the tackle industry. Biggest thing since the…, since the…, ChatterBait. Maybe… Fishermen are in a buying frenzy to get their hands on one of these derby winning wire wonders. Wire benders are burning the midnight oil feverishly bending wire to fill the demand. It’s a frenzy of Bammer Rig activity. This will revolutionize the way we fish (seine) for bass forever more. If you don’t get you some, you’re gonna take a ‘Bama butt whuppin’.
